Who are the geniuses behind the negative reviews?? Competing developers? TO THE DEVELOPER: The iPad version makes this my most used iPad app! This program continues to set the standard in dictionary apps of this kind. You are the epitome of a genuinely caring software maker. With the current implementation of multitasking support on iOS 6 so that the dictionaries load only once after a device reboot AND supporting fast search upon launching the app AND being able to paste a copy of a word looked up, say, in Safari, iBooks, or Reeder or any other place one might be reading a text that contains a word that needs to be looked up -- this already amazingly thought-out app becomes even more intuitive -- like Apple itself. It is safe to say at this point that Dictionary Universal is the essence of the best an iOS app can be. OLDER REVIEWS: You have listened to the user requests for which I thank you. Now I can safely uninstall all other dictionary software on my iDevices. Recently, after the newest update, I have moved Dictionary Universal from the fifth page of the app screens to the 4-app dock where it now resides and has become THE go-to dictionary app trumping all others. Again, a sincere thank-you! UPDATE SOME DAYS LATER: I put the app through its paces and have nothing but delight. All of my 25 dictionaries load super fast. Fuzzy search is outstanding!! On purpose, I tried to misspell several words, and the dictionaries knew which words I actually meant. I like that the bookmarking feature saves the definition from the dictionary that it was looked up in -- a simple but an innovative idea. I can tell you how this can be useful. Yes, I have 25 dictionaries, but for certain words one dictionary may present a better or more easily digestible definition than another dictionary, so being able to bookmark THAT particular definition is not only CONVENIENT but is a time-saver. Whenever I open up my Favorites to study and review my bookmarks, I am presented with the definition that I actually liked the best. The app is pretty much 99% perfect. Its a very no-nonsense library app that can store a good number of dictionaries easily downloadable from the web. My only suggestions from now on would be additional polish. The icon can be improved, especially for the new Retina displays. Also, I am elated that one can easily switch dictionaries now by swiping right or left -- much easier than clicking the arrow keys and way more intuitive! I am also grateful that this apps developer is constantly thinking how to improve it and he welcomes user feedback. I am foreseeing that I will be using this program for a very long time as I see nothing even remotely close to a perfect pocket electronic dictionary as this one -- and I go back to Palm Pilot days of the mid-90s. If you are a skeptic, then I invite you to read my other reviews and see for yourself that I am usually not this enthusiastic about an application. I have bought many a dictionary through iTunes but now Dictionary Universal is all I use. As far as multitasking, I believe it is on the way via an upcoming update. This is a unique app in that it resumes with the word search and the open keyboard so that one can start inputting a word from the moment the app is launched. Some people may prefer to come back to the app from another application and see the last entry they looked at when they left DU last time. I believe the developer will try to accommodate both types of users. Again, congratulations on filling the gap felt by those of us who think we should be able to use several dictionaries TOGETHER for a truly synergistic linguistic experience. What a delight it is to see a word defined by as many as 25 (put your number here) dictionaries and finding the definition that you prefer and think is best for you to remember. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Dictionary Universal is now my favorite, my most useful, my most treasured app of all. I mean it seriously. I have lots of reviews in the App store now, but I have reserved such praise only for this app. Please accept my sincere thank-you!

Fastest dictionary I own. The list of Favorite words is instrumental if you are learning a language. I also love how the same word can be looked up in all dictionaries and all languages — very helpful. Great job!

I have many and tried many, all have good and not so good points. This one is my preffered, for sure. The main point I like is the ability to have a banner or pop up with the explanation. I simply copy the word in iBooks or other app and the magic happens. Of course, many other dictionaries offer the possibility to read the content of the clipboard, but, form my experience, only this will serve you banners. Good work, keep going.

The best available for stardict so far. The synonyms feature is very useful though often makes for long definitions. Perhaps some sorting based on how close to the beginning of a definition a synonym occurs could be added; that would help tremendously. An increase in scrolling speed would also help.

Previously, I owned dozens of expensive dictionary apps, but now I can have any number of dictionaries in one sweet little app. Plus, load times are blazing fast—something that any dictionary user will no doubt find appealing. This is by far my most-used app, and its likely to keep that position indefinitely. The developer recently rolled out an update that included—as we have all been hoping for—iOS 7 support, along with a sleek redesign that fits in perfectly with the latest iteration of Apples mobile operating system. Thank you so much. To be honest, this review marks a new stage in my relationship with the app—a stage not unlike unconditional love. At the end of the day, the five-star rating is well-deserved, and the app stands unrivaled in the crowd of its mediocre counterparts. - - - If I were to make a further suggestion for the benefit of my favorite app, I would recommend introducing a wider variety of thin, modern-looking fonts into the current font selection. (Maybe add Helvetica Neue Thin alongside the regular Helvetica Neue, for starters?)

It looks awesome, works great, the reported bugs have been fixed. This is probably the best app that properly supports stardict format to its fullest extent, highly recommended. Very convenient to use from reader apps that support external dictionaries. E.g., Marvin.

This app is well thought out and powerful, but dont be intimidated if you dont know the first thing about StarDict-formatted dictionaries. The developer is very helpful and responses, and answers questions -- even trifling ones -- quickly. Highly recommended and worth the price.

This is a great app. It would be even better if it supported bgl dictionary formats.

Dictionary Universal is a fantastic app for browsing dictionaries because of its streamlined, clean interface, and because of its amazingly blazingly fast speed. Even more importantly, the customer service I received was absolutely outstanding. I was trying to install a rather large dictionary (something called the OED, whatever *that* is <wink>), but the format I had was incompatible and needed a few extra files to make it work properly. The developer worked with me for several days until the issue was resolved. When you PAY money for an app (and by the way, the cost of this app is extremely low considering all it does), you hope to get your moneys worth. In my case, I got my moneys worth, and many times that in return for the 6 bucks I spent. I cannot recommend Dictionary Universal highly enough. Please support the developer and purchase this outstandingly written app. I know, I know. Works much faster than WeDictPro. To all people having trouble installing dictionaties: there are lots of xdxf dicts available, and a converter to stardict format. The macos app is called DictBuilder. AWESOME Update! Ive got 4 dictionaries there, so... Thank you! Danke! Благодаря! Спасибо большое!

This is superb. I can now have the entire Webster’s 1913 on my iOS, instead of just the denuded basic iOS dictionary or the many other dictionary imposters that have stripped the language bare. Recommend for writers and anyone who is interested in more in-depth word definitions.

Dictionary Universal is the perfect application to read stardict and lingvo dsl format dictionaries .it supports viewing sounds and pictures if available in dictionary resources . I installed 40 dictionaries and after indexing (it takes few minutes) it can load them within milliseconds and search them instantly .definitely worth the money .

What a great app! Fast, stable. But this is not exactly a dictionary, it is rather a shell that can be used with dictionaries you have. And believe me, it is the best shell available in the market (not only iOS).

This is great software! The developer is also very approachable and eager to help out. The program works just as described. It is also a very well done iOS application (all the normal bells and whistles, no gimmicks). It is also fast. I have loaded about 10 databases with a total of 1,000,000 entries and search is very fast. Well done, well worth the purchase!

The app is amazing. This is my favorite dictionary app and it is truly one of the best out there. I swear by it! Программа - супер! Подбивает Lingvo словари на ура! To developer: - please add an option to enable navigation menu when viewing translation of a word. I am really sad it was replaced with gestures :( - please make a quick profile switch button so I dont have to navigate to Settings to switch to a different profile/language. Perhaps similar to layout switch on the keyboard? Some special gesture? - add a built-in guide to explain available gestures - please add an option to create a profile based on the input folder with dictionaries. So I can upload a folder "en-ru" that has all of those dictionaries and have an option to easily make that a profile. It is a real pain to scroll through a ton of dictionaries to select the ones I want for that profile...

Great app! Is it possible to support multitasking on iPad Air 2 iOS 9? It would be fantastic to open a dictionary on the side while reading.
